Between 3rd and 17th of July a work camp in Ágasegyháza near Kecsemét took place. The event was organised by the SCI Hungary.

Togther with ten volunteers from Brazil, Russia, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary, we were renovating some public spaces in the village and, what is even more important, animating local children.

During those two weeks we painted a playground for children and then helpend with renovation of a social centre, where we also were accomodated.

We spent dozen of fantastic days with local kids. I believe everyone loved playing with them, teaching them English and helping them with some art works. They rewarded us with honest smiles and for us it was far enough.

Hospitality of the locals was tremendous and we really enjoyed timed spent there on talking with them and learning about the cultural background of each of us. We had many opportunities to learn Hungarian words. Some of them are really important, like: ’tengeralattjáró’ or ’macska farok’.

Of course, everyone fell in love with Hungarian cuisine, even if it is not the best for a scorching weather. :) And even if locals somehow forced us to drink the palinka, what often ended with some dizziness.

The whole event was ended with a farewell evening, during which everyone: children, locals, and volunteers, could present their talents. We could hear Russian folk songs, watch Hungarian traditional dances, enjoy a play in English performed by children, and more.

Each and every person, who participated in the camp, will never forget those slaphappy days, although leaving the children was really difficult. But who knows, maybe we will see each other next year?
